Central Library:-
Library is a very important component in the infrastructure of an academic institution.
It plays a key role in the overall development of a student of that institution.
DIT management has a long vision and farsightedness for planning and establishing
a Library for its students, which is well equipped with the latest technologies
of today world and so comparable to all other sophisticated modern Libraries.
The various study resources available in DIT library can be divided
into two major groups: Printed material and electronic material; printed material
includes books, magazines, journals, project reports of final year students and
newspapers whereas electronic material includes floppies, CDs and audio cassettes
of books, magazines, soft wares and other study material related to different competitive
exams.

Library services:-
Book Section of Central Library Facilities
Library of the Institute contains a collection of books, periodicals, e-resources
and non-print materials, which have been acquired and prepared for the use of students,
faculty and others library members. Library of the institute is one of the most
wired and technology structure in the state.
• Books: DIT Central having approximately 30,000 books.
• Magazines and Journals: At present, Central Library subscribing 19 different magazines
and around 58 journals as a hard copy of various disciplines and more than 211 online
technical journals through INDEST-AICTE consortium.
• Floppies, Audio cassettes and Compact discs: At present, there are around 250
floppies of different books, nearly 3500 CDs of books, magazines, soft wares & other
study material.
• Automated circulation of books through ERP (SIM) software.
• Database of more than 30,000 vol. of books access through OPEC search facility.
• Digital Library suite containing more than 270 server based Learning resources,
which can be accessed in the digital library
• CD bank section contains a collection of CD-ROMS of books and 270 learning resources.
• Library with a fine collection of reference books which includes dictionaries,
thesaurus, encyclopedia, handbooks, proceedings, standards, data compilations etc.
• Rich collection of books on Entrepreneurship development cell.
• Book bank facility to students for the entire semester against nominal refundable
fee.
• Special book bank facility for students of reserve category under the scheme of
TEQIP.
• Photocopy facility provided within the library to the students and library members.
DIGITAL LIBRARY SECTION
Library of the institute has a huge collection of textbooks, reference books, periodicals,
reports, standards, dissertations etc. Besides this separate digital library, section
exists having 20 computers, connected through LAN with the facility of 24 hours
internet service. This section has also the facility to access multimedia-based
Learning resources with a comprehensive study of various engineering subjects. Its
visual simulation is more convening than words; emphasis has been given on line
diagrams, charts, animations, 3D models and video clippings of engineering process.
This help to the students in understanding the topic in the most convenient and
effective manner.
All are server based Learning resource covers many core subjects taught as per university
curriculum for B. Tech and subjects useful for major projects. This software also
includes testing skill for learning.
There are 20 PCs available for students in the digital library for accessing the
following on-line resources-
24 x 7 hours Internet/ Intranet connected library through WI-FI technology.
Digital Library suite containing more than 178 server based Learning resources,
which can be accessed in the digital library.
Subscribing e-journals viz. IEEE, IEE and ASME can be accessed in the digital library.
Supplementing and supporting classroom made up with the help of EDUSAT in the digital
library.
Special Feature of Library
Installed 3M Library security system for round-the-clock protection of library materials,
media (print and non-print) etc.
INDEST CONSORTIUM
THE Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has set up the “Indian National
Digital Library in Engineering Science & Technology” (INDEST) consortium and it
provides subscription of Electronic resources. Dehradun Institute of Technology
(DIT) has joined the AICTE-INDEST consortium for online journals of IEEE/IEE and
ASME with the financial support from World Bank “Technical Education Quality Improvement
Programme”.
IEEE/IEE online covers:
The IEEE/IEE electronic library (IEL) covers almost one third of the world’s current
electrical engineering and computer science literature. The resource covers more
than 1082760 documents from over 12000 publications, including 211 journals, transactions,
conference proceedings, IEEE standards.
ASME online covers:
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) covers 19 journals Applied Mechanics
review (AMR). This can be simultaneous accessed in un-limited users.
Reference Book Section:
As the name suggests, this section is meant for easy and quick reference. This section
contains minimum two books of almost all the titles available in general book section.
You are not entitled for getting reference books issued in your name. You may study
those reference books inside the library, which are not available for time being
in the general book section. This section also contains study material in the form
of Compact discs, Audio Cassets, Floppies and final year project reports of your
seniors. You are free to refer all this study material within the library.
In special circumstances, these items can be issued to you if requests are sent
through proper channel i.e. your request should be strongly recommended and forwarded
to chairman library committee by your faculty advisor, faculty coordinator or by
your subject teacher.
Xeroxing Facility:
DIT Library provides you this facility for xeroxing certain articles/pages from
those magazines, textbooks and journals that are not issued to the students in ordinary
case.
You can avail the Xeroxing facility in DIT Library at a reasonable rate of Rs.1/-
per copy. From this session onwards, you are required to fill up the requisition
slip meant for this purpose indicating the title of book/Author, name of article
and page number i.e. from this page to that page. After filling up the requisition
slip, you have to deposit it along with the Xerox charges to Asstt. Librarian. After
one or two hours you can collect the Xeroxed article from Xerox facility in charge.
Other Facilities:-
1. Online Book Search:
DIT Library is equipped with online search units. Two PCs have been installed inside
the Library exclusively for this purpose. By using on line search, you can quickly
find out the location and availability of a particular book in the DIT Library.

Online searching procedure is very simple and whole procedure is written and pasted,
on the wall just beside the online search units. Still if you face any difficulty
in following the on line search procedure, feel free to contact any Library staff
member for help.
2. Recommendation/Suggestion of new Books/More copies of existing Title:
Last Session onwards, DIT library is maintaining a Suggestion cum Recommendation
Register in the DIT Library in which you can recommend new books and make suggestions
for more copies of any particular title in the Library.
DIT management is kind enough for allocating sufficient budget to DIT Library every
session for the purpose of procurement of new books or extra copies of existing
title for the Library. But all such books/titles will be procured after thorough
consultation with the subject Teachers or Faculty coordinators.
Current Periodical Section :-
Periodical Section:
All the newspapers, magazines, journals come under this section. DIT library is
subscribing 7 daily newspapers (5 English & 2 Hindi), 1 weekly newspaper, 19 magazines
and more than 211 Journals (58 hard copy journals) of various disciplines. These
periodicals are available to you for easy reference during all the working hours
within the library. In special circumstances, these can be issued to you with prior
permission of Chairman-Library Committee, Registrar or Director. But all such requests
should be strongly recommended by the subject teacher, faculty advisor or faculty
coordinator.
You are also entitled to refer the CDs of different magazines, which in special
circumstances can be issued by following the same procedure.
