Today, the ragging has become synonym with teasing, terror, harassment, cruelty, fear and physical and mental torture and abuse of human rights of fresher which are resulting in numerous unavoidable deaths, suicides, group clashes/conflicts and large number of fresher dropouts. It is emphasized that DIT considers ragging as a cognizable and heinous offence and will not hesitate to take stern action against the offenders with a view to maintain “Ragging Free Campus”. Some of the punishments for students directly or indirectly involved in the ragging and its abetment are given as under:- Cancellation of Admission Suspension from attending classes. Withholding / withdrawing of scholarship / fellowship and other benefits. Debarring from appearing for any test / examination/placement activities organized by the institute. Withholding of results. Lodging FIR against offender. Debarring from representing the institution in any National or International meet, tournament and festival. Suspension / Expulsion from the hostel. Rustication from the institute for varying periods. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution. Fine up to Rs. 50,000/- Rigorous Imprisonment for up to 3 years (under court of law). Finally, you are requested to counsel your ward not to indulge in ragging in any form.
